We need volunteers to assist in the administration of one of a Micro-Credit organization. The economy of Ghana is dominated by small informal businesses. Many self-employed people just need a little bit more capital injection into their businesses to make a big difference. As a micro-credit officer you will be involved in assessing applications for small loans. You will also be involved in the tutoring some of the customers on how to keep simple records on the business transactions – and any other tasks your supervisor may assign to you. We are looking for volunteers who are good with numbers and can also work as part of the front-line staff. The successful applicant for this rewarding volunteer position must be a person who can adapt well to a different culture and is willing to learn quickly. Basic skills in bookkeeping will be an added advantage.
Accommodation and food
Volunteers are accommodated by a friendly host family. Volunteers have their own private bedroom but share the dining and living rooms with other members of the household. Three meals (Breakfast, lunch and dinner) are served. The meals consist of a mix of local and western foods. Breakfast could be coffee or tea or chocolate beverage or oats or maize porridge with bread and butter or jam or egg omelette. Lunch could be boiled or fried yam or rice or ripe plantain or potatoes or pasta or fufu with vegetable stew, sauce or soup. Dinner has similar content as lunch. As a rule, you can politely tell your host/hostess the food you don’t like – so they stick to those you like. Fruits abound most times of the year and are cheap. The world’s sweetest pineapples, mangoes and oranges can be found right here in Ghana Africa 😀
